HYDROGYN Cover AC/DC's 'Back In Black', Offer Free Download
June 15, 2005West Virginia's HYDROGYN have posted a cover of the AC/DC classic "Back In Black" on their web site, located at www.hydrogyn.com. The track is an early mix produced by Michael Wagener (OZZY OSBOURNE, SKID ROW) and hints at the dynamic final version to be featured on their forthcoming album "Bombshell", to be completed later this summer.
The track, which can be downloaded for free for a limited time, features the striking vocals of frontlady Julie Westlake along with the powerhouse backing of HYDROGYN's Jeff Westlake (guitar),Jeff Boggs (guitar),Jason Fields (bass) and Jerry Lawson (drums).
The track has been a staple in their setlist for months so it was a natural choice. "'Back In Black' is such a milestone track that we knew we had to do it right," explains Jeff Westlake. "Fortunately, we think it came out great, thanks to Julie honing in on the song and the challenging vocals during our recent shows. Hopefully people will be impressed with what she has done with it. We were very happy with it."
Added Julie Westlake: "I just listened to the original version of the song and had to put my own style to it. So I just went in the studio and sang it with as much aggressiveness to it as I possibly could."
In a rare interview, producer Wagener talks about the band, including the tackling of the iconic "Back In Black". Read the interview at this location.
Meanwhile, HYDROGYN have announced that drummer Jerry Lawson has secured an endorsement from Pearl Drums. Look for Jerry to feature top of the line Pearl products in future recordings and performances. Pearl is a highly acclaimed leader in drum manufacturing with an endorsement roster featuring members of MEGADETH, MACHINE HEAD, SEVENDUST, RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS and KISS, among many others.
